MONA PRESENTS: THE AUSTRALIAN STRING QUARTET

SUPERNORMAL: WORKS BY SYMONDS, GLASS AND ADÈS.

Four of Australia’s most outstanding string players (on a set of matched nineteenth century Guadagnini instruments) hit the Nolan to perform three virtuosic contemporary classical works: alternately invigorating, trancelike and intricate. Apparently it’s ‘like having a gymnast perform in your lounge room’.

Program:

  • Jack Symonds's: String Quartet No.2*

  • Philip Glass's: String Quartet No.3, ‘Mishima’

  • Thomas Adès: Arcadiana

*Commissioned by the Australian String Quartet for the London season of ANAM Quartetthaus through the Australian String Quartet Richard Divall Australian Music Fund.
